ACCEPTABLE USE CONTRACT

 

I.        Introduction

 

We are pleased to announce that computer information resources are now available to the students and staff of Pleasant Valley School District who have completed trainingreceived instruction.

 

Parents and students should read this contract together carefully.  When signed, this document establishes a legally binding contract between your school, Pleasant Valley School District and the student along with his/her parent/guardian.

 

A. Acceptable Use.  The use of computer information resources must be for class assignmentseducational purposes and follow all school rules.  The student accepts responsibility for his/her use of computer resources.  Illegal activities of any kind are strictly forbidden.  Inappropriate activity or use will be grounds for disciplinary action as per Pleasant Valley School District Policy 5131.

 

1.     Any wrong use of computer information resources is to be reported to school authorities.

 

 

B.    Privileges.  The use of computer information resources is a privilege, not a right, and wrong use will cause the loss of computer use.

 

C.   Network Manners and Privacy.  You are expected to follow network

      manners.  These rules include (but are not limited to):

 

  1. BE POLITE.  Never send, or encourage others to send abusive messages.

 

  1. USE APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE.  Remember that you are a representative of the Pleasant Valley School District.  You may be alone with your computer but what you say and do can be seen worldwide.  Never swear or use any other inappropriate language. 

 

  1. PRIVACY.  Do not reveal your home address or phone number, or the address or phone number of other students, friends, family or teachers.

 

  1. E-MAIL.  Electronic mail (e-mail) is not guaranteed to be private. 

 

  1. DISRUPTIONS.  Do not use the computer in any way that would disturb others.

 

D.   Vandalism.  Vandalism is any attempt to harm or destroy data or

      equipment.  Any vandalism will result in the loss of computer use.

 

E.   Security.  Security on any computer system is a high priority because

      there are so many users.  If you identify a security problem, notify your

      teacher at once.  Never demonstrate the problem to others.  Any user

      identified as a security risk will be denied access to the information

      system.

 

F.  Services.  The Pleasant Valley School District makes no warranties of

      any kind, whether expressed or implied, for the service it is providing. 

      The Pleasant Valley School District shall not be responsible for any

      damages suffered while on this electronic information system.  Use of any information obtained via the system is at the user's own risk.  The Pleasant Valley School District specifically disclaims any responsibility for the content and appropriateness of information obtained through its system.

 

Pleasant Valley School District provides a content filter on all student computers to help prevent misuse of the Internet. Teachers are trained in the use of the Internet and email and they will provide training instruction to the students before the student will be allowed to access either the Internet or email. There will be supervision of students whenever they are on the Internet.

 

I understand and will follow the rules of my school and Pleasant Valley School District for using computer information resources.  I understand that breaking the rules may be against the law.  Should I break the rules, I understand that I may lose my privileges to use computer information resources and/or may be sent to the principal’s office or other authority for discipline. I have read and understand each part.
